The right hair and makeup is a huge part of looking and feeling your best on your wedding day but how do you get the look you are envisioning? And how do you know if the looks you’ve saved in Pinterest are really going to work for you?

Tamara of Tamara’s Hair & Beauty has been working with brides to create their perfect look for the past ten years. Here, she shares with us her top tips for getting it just right.

1.Don’t underestimate the importance of a trial.

Make sure you book in a trial ahead of your wedding day to give you a chance to try a few different ideas and pick the best for you. It helps to have a look through magazine and/or Pinterest for some inspiration.

“At the moment, soft romantic waves and flower crowns, flowers and greenery are popular styles,” Tamara said, “Beautiful natural makeup designed to enhance your features never dates and elegant hair up styles are perfect on most brides and to complement most dress styles.”

2.Work with what you’ve got…

While it’s great to look for style inspiration, the most important thing is working with your own features. An experienced professional will help you work out the best hair and make up styles for your unique face shape and features.

“The best advice I can give is to be true to yourself and your own beauty,” Tamara said, “Know your look and work with an experience professional to highlight and enhance it.”

3.… and fake it if you need to!

If you want a fuller, longer hair style, stuffing and/or extensions can be a great option for your wedding day especially if you don’t have long or thick hair. Similarly, false eyelashes can be a great addition to top off your bridal make up.

4. Consider the style of your dress.

Your hair and makeup is part of your whole look and should needs to complement your dress, just like your accessories. Do you have a detailed or low back you want to show off by having your hair up? A high or exposed neckline?

5. Complement your accessories

Your dress, hair, makeup and accessories all need to work together. Are you planning on wearing a head piece or a veil? What jewellery are you wearing? Your hairstyle should highlight these features and not compete with or cover them up.

6. Perfect your canvas

Make sure your hair colour is fresh and you don’t have regrowth (which will be particularly obvious in some hairstyles). Also have your hair trimmed and eyebrows waxed.

7.Don’t forget your bridesmaids!

The ideal bridesmaid look will complement and not overpower yours , again taking into account their features and what they will be wearing.

8.Stay hydrated

Both on the day and in the lead up to your wedding, make sure you are drinking enough water. This will help you avoid dry, flaky lips and is one of the most important things you can do for your skin.

9.Maintain your look on the day

Arm yourself for touch ups with a little makeup bag with your lipstick and blotting paper – put one of your bridesmaids in charge of this on the day.
